"The first act, Horizon, is a romantic tribute to Cai’s firework show in March 1994, where a trail of gunpowder spanning 5000m lit the contour of the earth. 

 

The Acts “White Wave” and “Black Wave” follow—a commemoration of the 2011 tsunami. Beneath the tranquil sky, expanding clouds of apocalyptic white suddenly engulf the vision, a blanketing overcast of smoke reminding us of nature’s majesty, frightening yet angelic. 

 

While the white still lingers like a looming fog, another explosion of dark blue once again color the sky—splotches of ink splashed onto a pale blue canvas. 

 

“Monument” trails behind, in an act of remembrance—a eulogy composed together by man and nature. 

 

Like any cinematic finish, Cai saves the most vibrant scene for the last, painting the already smoke-covered sky with heavenly pink.

 

While the pink clouds strike most only as beautiful, to me they simultaneously possess a layer of gore. Although fleeting, I cannot help but feel a visceral jolt as the brilliant red and orange explode like bleeding scars across the light blue sky, then slowly dispersing like blood in ocean water after a shark attack. Yet in almost no time, the bloody imagery transforms into clouds of surreal pink—an abstraction of the Greek goddess Aphrodite, now emitting only love and beauty."
